Las Vegas - Luxor Hotel

Hotel Luxor - Las Vegas The first few days of our journey to the United States were spent in Las Vegas, Nevada. We stayed in the Hotel Luxor which is situated on Las Vegas Boulevard (better known as "the Strip").

The Strip is where all the best hotels, bars, casinos and restaurants are to be found. 18 of the 20 biggest hotels in the world are to be found on this section of road in Las Vegas. The Luxor is one of them ... it has 4,407 rooms on 30 floors in 3 buildings with 44 lifts.

We stayed in the Pyramid which is pictured here. The main entrance is accessed immediately underneath the Sphinx which is a replica of the Sphinx in Egypt (although in fully restored condition!) and is allegedly 60% bigger than the original.

Within the Pyramid the lifts are called "Inclinators" rather than elevators because they actually ascend diagonally up the pyramid wall.
The Hotel has 9 restaurants, one of which, the Isis, is listed in America's top 10. We visted the buffet regularly because you could have as much as you could eat ... if you're not careful you can become accustomed to a breakfast consisting of a starter of 2 pears and followed by 8 sausages, 10 slices of bacon, two egg Benedicts, scrambled eggs & potatoes, with waffles to follow! I loved it!!
