Terry Fox was a remarkable young man. He lost a leg as a result of cancer and thereafter decided to raise money for cancer research by running across Canada from coast to coast. He ran the equivalent of a marathon every day until he had run 3,339 miles. However, at that point he had to give up because the cancer had spread to his lungs. He died 9 months later aged just 22.
