At the end of May 2013 we set off for Great Salkeld where we spent two weeks. Here are some photos from our holiday:
Great Salkeld is close to Penrith and therefore not far away is Hadrian's Wall which we visited on one of our non-cycling days.
Archaelogical excavations are still taking place at the Roman Fort of Vindolanda. It's a very interesting place, not only because of the remains of the buildings that are there, but especially because of the many well-preserved artefacts that have been found.
On another of our days we drove over the border into Scotland and went to Dumfries.
This is Gretna Green which we visited on our way back from Dumfries.
Our visit to Appleby Horse Fair was certainly one of the highlights of our holiday. Whether you are interested in horses or not, we would highly recommend visting.
We rode to Alston over Hartside
A visit to Lake Windermere
